► VW design boss releases design sketches of ‘IDEvery1’
► Production version ‘entry-level EV’ will go on sale in 2027
► Volkswagen promises a starting price of €20,000 (around £17k)
Volkswagen will reveal an all-new electric concept car in March named IDEvery1. After a single teaser image published directly via Volkswagen, the brand’s design boss Andreas Mindt has posted sketch images of the car with a hashtag #IDEVERY1 – possibly confirming the use of the ID.1 name for the corresponding production car.
The new model is intended to be VW’s smallest new EV, which is confirmed for production and launch in 2027, and is planned to go on sale for €20,000 (or around £17k) in 2027. Volkswagen brand boss, Thomas Schäfer says that the new, entry-level EV will be ‘an affordable, high-quality, and profitable electric Volkswagen from Europe for Europe.’
VW is busy making sweeping changes to how it goes about its business after stark reports outlining its financial troubles kick-started the ‘Zukunft Volkswagen’ plan. That plan, says Schäfer, is designed to whip Volkswagen into shape and make it more resilient. The darker side of the plan, however, includes actions like moving Golf production to Mexico, job cuts and shuttering its entire Dresden plant by the end of 2025.
To clarify, this electric model is separate from the ID.2, which is still scheduled to hot production either towards the very end of 2025 or early 2026; that model will be based off the ID.2all concept car. Volkswagen says it plans on launching nine new car models between now and 2027, including this entry-level EV and the ID.2.
