Honda’s revealed plans to expand its EV range in Europe following on from the dinky Honda E city car. Its next step will arrive in 2023, and we’ve been given a small preview with this new e:Ny1 concept car.
The new concept (pronounced ‘anyone’) is designed to grow the brand’s zero-emissions offering in the region. Honda teases us with a few images of the new car and… guess what? It just looks like a HR-V without a grille.
Yep, that’s it.
No, really – that’s all the brand has told us. Specs are unknown, but we expect the production version of the new electric small SUV to offer similar acceleration performance as the Honda E, albeit (hopefully) with a larger range than its supermini.
‘The new models we will introduce in 2023 set the course for the next generation of electrified Honda cars,’ says Honda Europe’s senior VP, Tom Gardner, ‘all retaining the engaging driving dynamics, comfort and exceptional usability to which our customers have become accustomed.’
It’s not the first time Honda’s revealed an electric SUV concept. The brand showed off the SUV e:concept at Auto China 2020, with the aim of building a specific EV for the market.
Honda has said it’ll have the brand’s Sensing safety tech, which is essentially omnidirectional ADAS. It works by widening the front camera angle and increasing the scope of the radar to a full 360-degrees. In addition, the production car will also focus on tech; its Connect system will include a smartphone link, wireless updates and an AI assistant interface – much like the infotainment we now get in Europe from the brand.
