CAR Online reader Gary Seddon did some snooping around this Merc E-class Coupe when he walked past it parked up on a north Wales street. It’s the successor to the CLK and we’ll see the finished car at the Geneva motor show this spring.
Gary’s are excellent shots of the E coupe – there’s minimal disguise hiding the bodywork and you get a real feel for what Mercedes has done with the design. As the name suggests, it’ll be linked – in both engineering and design language – to the new 2009 E-class saloon family. Indeed, the new two-door will be positioned in line with the W124-generation E-class coupes, more than the C-class aligned CLK.
Merc E-class: the full range
This coupe is one of four bodystyles planned for the newly expanded E-class range. The saloon and coupe arrive first in June 2009 priced from around £30,000, then we’ll see the new estate in autumn 2009, followed by the successor to the low-slung CLS in late 2010.
Is it relevant that the car was spotted in north Wales? You bet. Merc engineers and staff are fine-tuning the set-up of the new E-class on UK roads. This right-hand drive, German-registererd prototype is one of the guinea pigs for the company’s new out-reach development programme.
