Quite a day for Audi S model scoops: earlier we papped thenew Audi S3 hot hatch, now a reader has scooped what appears to be the new Audi S6 Avant.
Harriet Mann was in the US when she noticed a new-shape Audi A6 Avant in front of her. But all was not what it seemed.
Audi S6 Avant (2012): the scoop
‘We saw this new A6 Avant pull out in front of us in Beverly Hills last week where we were on holiday,’ she tells CAR.
‘It was following a matt black A7. It looks like it could be the new RS6?’
It’s a great spot, but we suspect it’s not the RS6.
So if it’s not the RS6, what is it?
We reckon this is the new S6, denoted by the quad pipes (Audi reserves big chunky twin oval pipes for its RS models).
The new Audi S6 saloon – and, confirmed here, Avant – will use Audi’s new 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine. It’s the lump co-developed with Bentley for use in the GT Continental range and will pack clever fuel-saving tech, including cylinder deactivation.
