► Follows SU7 saloon
► Due in China mid-2025
► Could push out 681bhp
You’re probably looking at the YU7, a new electric SUV from Xiaomi that follows the incredibly popular (in China) SU7 saloon. Leaked on the Chinese ‘everything’ site Weibo, the new car will launch in mainland China mid-2025.
The pictures here suggest it carries the same design language of the SU7, only on a larger SUV-shaped shell. Despite being best known as a smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi is well aware an electric SUV is where the market – and money – is.
So what do we know?
These pictures follow on from a loud few months for the SU7, which recently set a lap record at the Nürburgring. This car won’t be quite as powerful as the SU7 Ultra we saw but will pack some heat: an image from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s suggests it’ll have a 295bhp motor on the front and 386bhp on the rear axle for a combined output of 681bhp. That’s a touch more than the 664bhp of the top non-Ultra SU7.
CAR understands YU7 customers will be able to choose between battery sizes of 94.3kWh and 101kWh; in theory good enough for a range of over 400 miles.
What does Xiaomi say?
‘Xiaomi YU7 is expected to be officially launched in June or July 2025 (in Mainland China),’ a Xiaomi spokesperson told CAR. ‘We are currently conducting large-scale road tests and will keep the same high-quality delivery as what we have been doing for Xiaomi SU7.’
Will it come to the UK?
Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed it will, but the huge success of the car in mainland China, combined with appearance of new brands such as BYD and Omoda in the UK, must mean it’s a possibility.
