► New 992 gets a bit taller
► Will the Safari edition make it to production?
► All you need to know in detail
The 992 is here, but we’re still waiting on the GT2, GT3 and now this – an off-road-focused version of Porsche’s perennial supercar. First spotted where else, but the Nürburgring, late last year, it looked as though the ride height had been jacked up minutes before; its wheelarches were stuffed with foam to validate the gaps. Aside from that, it looked like any other 992.

However, our spy photographers have snapped all-new pictures of the 4×4 911, and it’s clear the project has moved on; the rear section around the numberplate has been designed to fit the loftier stance, and the foam is gone from the arches. Whatever Stuttgart has planned, it’s coming together quickly.
It looks to all intents and purposes like Porsche engineers are readying a Safari edition of the current 911, harking back to a 911 of the same name decades ago. It’s a long shot, but Stuttgart has given us special creations like the updated 935 Moby Dick. Let’s wait and see shall we?
