► New Mercedes-Benz E-class Cabriolet spy shots
► Will be the fourth bodystyle in the new range
► Expected to be revealed in full in 2017
Mercedes is set to expand its latest E-class range with the a new drop-top version, spotted here undergoing trials on public roads.
It will be the fourth body style offered in the new line-up, sitting alongside the current saloon model and upcoming estate and coupe variants.
While the prototype seen here is camouflaged, it’s clear that the upcoming convertible E-class will have a fabric folding roof. Styling-wise, outside of the obvious E-class cues, you can expect it to echo the drop-top versions of the C-class and S-class.
Mercedes-Benz E-class Cabriolet specifications
The powertrain options won’t come as any surprise, likely mirroring the E-class saloon’s range with a choice of diesel and petrol options – and perhaps even a hybrid, given their rising popularity.
However, with the increasing number of variants in Mercedes’ line-up, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if an AMG version of the new E-class Cabriolet appeared. After all, we’ve seen the Mercedes-AMG E63 saloon undergoing trials, and an AMG-fettled ‘43’ has already been launched.
Is this the last new bodystyle for the E-class line-up?
No, this isn’t expected to be the last of the bodystyles for the new E-class range. Our sources have suggested that a long-wheelbase version, a swooping low-roofed CLS model and a CLS Shooting Brake of the new E-class are in the works.
If you’re interested in a new Mercedes-Benz E-class Cabriolet, however, you’re in for a bit of a wait. It’s predicted, should all go to plan, to be made available in 2017.
