These are the latest pictures of Mercedes’ facelifted CL coupe, caught as the car was testing essentially undisguised on the roads around the Nurburgring.
I presume the new CL gets all the same tweaks as the recently revised Mercedes S-class?
Yes. At front there’s new headlamps, plus a more pointed and tapering front grille with – wait for it – two horizontal bars instead of three. The current car’s solitary air intake in the front bumper is replaced by a trio of intakes, and there are the obligatory LED daytime running lights as well. The door mirrors are also new, along with LED rear lights and a revised rear bumper with integrated exhausts.
Of course the new CL is gadget packed, too. The E-class donates its drowsiness detection system, the suspension compensates for crosswinds, the night vision system highlights pedestrians and there’s a split-view front monitor so the driver and passenger can watch different displays.
When do we see the revised CL?
Not until 2010, either at the Detroit or Geneva motor show. Mercedes has just launched a run-out special of the current CL, along with a revised AMG bodykit, so there’s still a few more months yet until the facelifted car is unveiled.
Don’t expect a hybrid CL to appear when the new car is revealed – although the hardware from the S400 Hybrid is easily transferable to the CL, CAR understands that the coupe won’t get the tech straight away.
