Our spies have snapped the new McLaren MP4-12C undergoing last-minute testing against a Porsche 911 Turbo and a Ferrari 458 Italia. Sadly, they didn’t quite snap the three cars in the same shot. Shame.
How much will the McLaren MP4-12C cost?
Pricing will be announced before the end of 2010 and we’re still expecting a sticker price on a par with a 458 Italia. That means £170,000 to you and me.
The first customer deliveries are expected in the first half of 2011. Why such a vague date? Well, the 12-C’s factory is still being built in Woking alongside the McLaren Technical Centre and the first cars are due to be built in the older wing where the McMerc SLR was assembled.
Who’s going to buy the new McLaren 12C?
A spokesman claimed 3200 people to date have registered serious interest in the MP4-12C.
There’s one flipside to the long wait for the McLaren V8: it gives their engineers testing these early VP (validation prototype) cars longer to make sure they hit stiff targets agains the competition.
Meanwhile, the wait continues to see if it can live up to the promise!
