► New baby EV coming in 2025
► Smaller than the Cupra Born
► Shares MEB Entry guts with VW ID.2
Remember the Cupra Raval? Or better yet, the Urban Rebel? Here’s latest look at Cupra’s urban electric supermini, captured testing by our spy photographers as it finally nears production.
We first saw the Urban Rebel or Raval at Cupra’s Impulse event few years ago now, where it was rolled out alongside the Terramar, Tavascan and other refreshed models. The Terramar has only just been officially revealed, and it appears we’re now getting close to the official reveal of the battery-powered Spanish supermini.
What is it?
The Raval – named after a particularly characterful part of Barcelona – will slot just below the Born in terms of size, making it the smallest Cupra EV on sale. Like the Born, it’ll share a platform with a VW ID product – in this case the junior ID.2. It’ll use the more compact MEB Entry platform and measure just over four metres long.
There’s another difference between the Raval/ID.2 and the ID.3/Born relationship: the Raval will come before the Volkswagen product this time, with the Cupra arriving in 2025 and the VW coming a little while after. Perhaps Cupra’s strong sales have earned it the right to go earlier than before.
Anything else?
Like the ID.2, the Raval will be front-wheel-drive, with an electric motor pushing out around 200bhp on the front axle. Range should be around 280 miles, which is little less than the Born, but in keeping with the Raval’s city-centric target audience.
A 0-62mph sprint should take a respectable 6.9 seconds, though the real figure here will be the 0-30mph dash.
Cupra is planning to deliver the Cupra Raval electric car for a little more than the ID.2’s €25,000 (circa £21,500) asking price, according to insiders.
