Alfa Romeo’s new Stelvio due in 2026 with EV power… and a V6 Quadrifoglio

► Quadrifoglio planned, possibly up to 1000bhp

The next new car to wear Alfa’s scudetto shield will be this: the next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Our spy photographers have spotted a prototype in Sweden as the winter testing season draws to a close.

CAR can confirm that the new SUV will keep its Stelvio name – a generally unusual move for a brand that likes to rename its cars for every new generation – and that it’ll use the latest Stellantis technology.

Our first look at this prototype shows us that, beneath the cladding and camo, the Stelvio is likely to feature quite a coupe-like rear end – even more so than the outgoing one. Dual-level headlights at the front flank that classic Alfa grille, too.

Under the bodywork will be the Stellantis STLA Large platform. We’ve first seen cars from North America launch with this architecture first – namely the Dodge Charger Daytona and the Jeep Wagoneer S, with the latter coming to Europe towards the end of 2025.

That platform allows for huge electric power outputs, different drive configurations and the ability to house combustion engines. Electric Stelvio variants are likely to reach up to 400 miles of e-range – similar to the Wagoneer S – with mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid engine variants planned.

Alfa bosses have also confirmed that a Quadrifoglio model will return, too. Former boss, Jean-Phillippe Imperato, has told CAR that Alfa Romeo’s high-performance electric versions could reach up to 1000bhp. But CAR sources also say that Alfa Romeo is planning on keeping the V6 for its high-performance versions given the slow-down of electrification and relaxing of emissions rules in Europe.

The Stelvio is currently planned to be revealed towards the end of 2025, but Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili has confirmed that production will not start until 2026 due to supply delays.

We’ll update this page when we know more.
