► Just six months to celebrate the F-Type

From bassy wob-wob idle to serrated redline, the F-Type’s AJ133 engine utterly dominates the driving experience. Smooth and cultured when you’re mooching around town or utterly rabid – complete with firecracker over-runs – when the road empties, it’s always ready with mightily generous helpings of shove that constantly test the rear tyres’ limits.
Having driven previous supercharged Jaguars, I’m surprised at the absence of whine. But the Eaton unit is definitely doing its job. The huge dollops of lag-free torque available – 428lb ft arrives at 2500rpm and stays put until 5000rpm – make it feel like there’s a 6.0 or 7.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 up front. I’m not complaining.
