I often find myself muttering unsolicited advice at other drivers, all too aware of the Partridgian implications – ‘There’s no fog!’ as the great man once bellowed in string-backed driving gloves.

Favourites include ‘Your car’s width is unaffected by its speed’ as the traffic ahead crawls between parked cars a 747’s width apart. Another is: ‘If not today then when?!’ at the sight of a convertible, roof up on a summer’s afternoon.

Determined to steer clear of hypocrisy I’m dropping the Bentley’s roof at every opportunity. As you can do so while cruising at up to 30mph, you’ve really no excuse. Cleverly, the car resets the climate control to the settings you had last time you drove al fresco. A-ha!
