We’re getting the band back together: all six Shelby Daytona Coupes reunited for 2015 Goodwood Revival

► Six Cobra Daytona Coupes were made
► All of them will be at the 2015 Goodwood Revival

► Marks 50 years of the iconic ’60s racer

Even in an era overflowing with iconic racing designs, the Shelby Daytona Coupe is one of those cars that’s just a little bit special.

The work of designer Peter Brock (not to be confused with the legendary Aussie racing driver of the same name), it replaced the regular AC Cobra’s beguiling but blunt bodywork with a far slipperier fastback coupe silhouette to make the most of the Shelby-tuned Ford V8 engine’s brute force.

Only six were ever made – and each and every one of them will be at the 2015 Goodwood Revival historic racing festival in September. It’s claimed to be the first time all half dozen Daytona Coupes will be in the same place at the same moment.

What will the magnificent six Shelbys be doing during the revival?

Two of them will be racing against the likes of Lightweight E-Types and Ferrari 250 GTOs in the blue-ribbon hour-long RAC TT race on the Sunday. Let’s hope they survive unscathed – it’s a race that’s becoming as famed for its cut-throat paint-swapping action as it is for the incredible array of cars on the grid.

All six cars will complete a demonstration run around the track each day and when they’re not in motion they will be on display in the main paddock on a set designed to recreate the pitlane of the 1965 Sebring 12 Hours.

Why the Cobra Coupe theme?

The Coupe family’s being reunited to mark 50 years since the car’s debut, in an endurance race at Daytona (hence, as you’ve probably guessed, the car’s name), where it scored pole position and led the early race’s early stages.

In previous years the Revival has paid similar tribute to the Maserati 250F and the Ford GT40.

The 2015 Goodwood Revival will take place from 11 to 13 September 2015. It’s bookended by the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the start of summer from 25 to 28 June – click for CAR’s top five reasons to make the trip this year.
