Silverstone Classic 2022: the sights and sounds

Updated: 30 August 2022

► A look at what we saw at Silverstone Classics this weekend
► Every year towards the end of August
► One of the best places to see car culture, racing and historic

Silverstone Classic might not have the name of the Goodwood Revival or the prestige of Salon Privê, but it remains one of the best non-racing events for car fans. Hosted, as you’d expect at the Silverstone circuit, the Classic is a unique blend of car show, historic demonstration and outright racing. Scroll through our images below to see some of the sights from this year’s meet.

Lewis Hamilton remains the most successful driver of all time, and this year Silverstone Classic gave the public a chance to see how we achieved it all. For the first time-ever, all of the Englishman’s championship-winning cars were displayed in the same place; giving the public a chance to see cars from the 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 championships.

Whilst it’s a shame they weren’t on track, it’s still a way to truly appreciate the size and complexity of F1 cars, and the impact rule changes have on how they look.

This year’s Classic once again gave motorsport fans a chance to feel and hear the sound of old-school Formula One cars.

Although they may be less efficient, less sophisticated and arguably not as capable of close racing, the F1 cars of the 80s and 90s are still something every petrol head needs to experience. And there were plenty of earlier cars too…

True to its name, Silverstone Auctions also displayed a host of modern classics, including a very tidy example of a BMW Z3.
