Poll: Which of 2016’s crop of new SUVs is the most interesting?

Updated: 04 January 2016

► 2016’s most important new SUVs
► Host of luxury posh-roaders on the way
► Jag, Maserati, Tesla – they’re all at it

Will 2016 be remembered as the year of the SUV? With the sales curve for 4x4s and crossovers still heading skywards, wave upon wave of new off-roaders are on the way before the year’s end.

In particular, it’s the luxury end of the market that’s about to go boom. Jaguar and Maserati will both launch an SUV for the first time, and Tesla’s gullwing-doored Model X could catapult the electric upstarts into the big time.

Land Rover will launch little ’n’ large new models: both a new-generation Discovery and a compact BMW X3-sized Range Rover model to fill a handy gap in the range. The chunky Ford Edge will finally make the jump from the States to Europe, and Seat’s putting the Leon on stilts to create a crossover that might actually be fun to drive.

And right at the top of the tree (in terms of sheer opulence, at any rate) there’s the 190mph Bentley Bentayga. Read Georg Kacher’s first drive of the Bentayga here.
