► On display at Milan Design Week
► Specially designed for futuristic cuisine
► Boasts DJ booth, 46in screen, 32 speakers
Who better than the French to redesign rusty old burger vans lurking in city centres? Meet the new Peugeot Food Truck, looking like something from a sci-fi film but bound for this month’s Milan Design Week.
This is no place for serving up greasy chips and kebabs – instead it has been designed to cater for more ‘foodie’ consumers. It’s haute cuisine, Peugeot-style.
‘Le Bistrot du lion’: how it works
The Peugeot Food Truck looks like a regular van towing a trailer, but both have hinged extensions; upon arrival, truck and trailer open up to reveal a state-of-the-art gastro-kitchen on wheels.
There’s a food preparation area, a bar, DJ booth and very top-end coffee machine. You might be wondering why a DJ area is necessary, as guests would flock to eat not dance at this space-age bistro. The manufacturer says it’s a good platform to promote its Peugeot Music digital music platform.
A very high-tech dining experience
Peugeot is desperate to make this a cutting-edge dining experience in more ways than one; there’s a 46-inch screen built into the van, eight Focal speakers and 32 tweeters for entertaining diners as they wait for the chefs to cook up mouth-watering treats.
Hopefully that’s enough hi-fi power to drown out every hiss, spit and hum from the two grilling plates, deep-fat fryer and fridge built in.
Peugeot says the Food Truck creates an ‘amphitheatre-like dining space’ and can serve 30. Just the thing to take to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, we’d say. So long as those speakers play classical tunes and no heavy metal, that is…
