► ¼ mile time of 9.63sec
► 137.78mph at end
► For sale: yours for £10,500
Portuguese driver Jose Zeze Realista has just pipped the record for Europe’s fastest front-wheel drive diesel over the quarter mile, running an incredible time of just 9.63sec with a closing speed of 137.78mph. To put that into perspective, a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport completed the quarter in 9.9sec at 146mph…
Jose Zeze Realista’s rather special Mk2 three-door VW Polo was built by AM Motorsport in Portugal. The record-breaking time was clocked at Britain’s drag racing home, Santa Pod, at the Ultimate Street Car event held from 31 July to 2 August 2015.
Europe’s fastest diesel Polo is for sale!
If you fancy dusting off some supercars at the traffic lights, you’ll be pleased to hear the 550bhp hot hatch monster is up for sale – for the princely sum of €15,000 (£10,500). Just don’t go banking on matching VW’s claimed economy figures for a roadgoing econobox.
The non-road-legal Polo left a long trail of black smoke along the Pod’s track before securing its record, racing against an equally impressive 9.73sec diesel VW Golf, also from Portugal, in the left lane. Watch the video below to witness the record run.
The Polo’s time now sits 28th in the all-time fastest front-wheel drive quarter-mile times, with a petrol version of the VW Polo taking top spot with a 8.71sec time at 176.98mph. Click here to visit Europe’s fastest FWD drag-racing cars’ Facebook page for more information, images and videos.
