A Caterham blockbuster: new Lego Seven is coming

Updated: 14 March 2016

► Official Lego Caterham Seven
► Due for launch in late 2016
► Crowdsourced via Lego Ideas forum

If you’ve longed to build your own Caterham Seven, but been scared by the prospect of some proper spannering, consider this: you could soon try a quicker form of DIY, with less chance of skinning your knuckles – by building a Lego model.

There’s never been an official Lego Seven, but the company will immortalise the Caterham later in 2016 when it launches its own miniature model.

The idea was submitted via the Lego Ideas system – a mechanism to harvest user-generated ideas for what Lego should design next.

Bricking it: the Lego Caterham Seven

Superfan Carl Greatrix clearly loves the Seven and submitted his own concept (pictured), which won 10,000 votes from vistitors to Lego’s website between May and September 2015.

No prices or other details of the new Lego Caterham boxset have been released yet. But we reckon Carl’s effort sets the bar high for the most Superlight Seven yet.

Caterham chief commercial officer David Ridley said: ‘The great thing about Lego toys is that they are timeless – it certainly isn’t just children who love it; we have a few of our team members who are avid fans despite being well into their 40s. If you know someone who has always wanted a Caterham Seven, you can now tell them you’re getting them one.’
