The new Lincoln Navigator proved once again that full-size premium SUVs are where the market’s at in the United States.

The new 2018 model year Nav was unveiled at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, which kicked off on Wednesday.

What’s new on the 2018 Lincoln Navigator?

The makers claim it ‘elevates family travel to first class,’ citing a smattering of tech to bring peace to familial duties. So there’s wireless charging and standard wifi for up to 10 devices to keep even the most data-draining surfers entertained en route.

Powering the full-size SUV is Ford’s twin-turbo V6 making 450bhp and driving through a 10-speed auto for hushed highway cruising (aided by laminated windows). Stop-start cruise control is offered to ease urban commuting.

Performance should be more than adequate thanks to lightweight aluminium in the bodyshell, shaving around 90kg compared with the last Navigator.

New Lincoln Navigator: acing family duties

Mimicking the tech already seen on some Land Rovers and Fords, the Navigator throws an illuminated Lincoln logo on the ground upon nighttime approach. They call it the ‘welcome matt’.

Once onboard, life proves remarkably comfortable thanks to those super-sized dimensions – and 30-way adjustable front seats, which include massage, cooling and heating functions.

More details on the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator will be published shortly.
