Peugeot to show new 308 GTI at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015

Updated: 01 June 2015

► Peugeot to show 308 GTI at Goodwood
► World debut planned at Moving Motor Show
► Likely to pack RCZ R’s 260bhp 1.6 turbo

Peugeot plans to unveil the 308 GTI at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed Moving Motor Show in a few weeks’ time – giving the remarkably improved mid-sized hatch a proper riposte to the class benchmark VW Golf GTI.

Although the French have so far only confirmed ‘a new 308 performance model’ making its world premiere at Lord March’s south-coast festival, CAR understands this is indeed the full-fat 308 GTI variant to slot above the warm-hatch 308 GT announced in autumn 2014.

And we hear the new hot hatch could pilfer the 266bhp 1.6-litre petrol turbo engine from the rather excellent, Peugeot Sport-prepared RCZ R sports coupe. Read our long-term test of that car here.

What Peugeot plans for the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed

The company has confirmed one global and a European debut at Goodwood:

  • ‘New 308 performance model’ world debut
  • 308 R HYbrid making its Euro debut

The Goodwood Moving Motor Show is scheduled to take place on Thursday 25 June – the day before the three-day FOS starts. Around 34,000 visitors are expected to come and have a ride up the hill in new models as manufacturers use the dynamic advantage of a driving event to try and sell their wares.

And if you like old cars more than the current crop of roadgoing Peugeots, feast your eyes on the 205 T16, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Peugeot’s WRC rally win in the ultra Group B category.

Tickets to the Moving Motor Show cost £30 for adults, or half that if you’re aged between 13-21. Children are free. More details at www.goodwood.com/tickets
