Goodwood is back, and both the Revival and Festival of Speed look to be bigger and better than ever in 2008
The Earl of March – the man who kindly lets us into his grounds twice a year – has just set the dates for the Goodwood Revival and the Festival of Speed. The former will be celebrating its tenth anniversary, so expect something extra special. To the latter first though. The Festival of Speed, which is now in its 16th year, will run from 11 to 13 July. The theme of the hillclimb is still under discussion and is due to be announced by the end of the year. Expect it to be good though: the theme of the 2007 event was ‘Breaking Records and Pushing Boundaries’. That encompassed anniversaries from Booklands, the Isle of Mann TT, Ferrari, the World Superbike Championship, and the Bonneville Speed Week.
Some big name drivers will also be present – Lewis Hamilton was there in 2007 – as well as lots of new cars: the Caparo T1 and the new Nissan GT-R both sprinted up the hill in 2007. The Goodwood Revival, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2008, along with the 60th anniversary of the Goodwood Motor Circuit, will be held from 19 to 21 September 2008. The event celebrates motorsport up until 1966 and both the competitors and spectators come dressed in period clothing. The dates are subject to the FIA finalising the F1 calendar, but are almost certain not to change. Entry, as always, is by advance purchase tickets only. Sales commence on Thursday 1 November 2007, through the ticket hotline or via the website (www.goodwood.co.uk/motorsport). See you there!
