With all the inevitability of a weapons race, car manufacturers love nothing more than ramping up their power outputs on hot hatches.
It’s increasingly easy, now that most performance – and cooking – cars are turbocharged. A little more boost here, a dab more bragging rights there.

Exactly, of the metric kind. We guess vRS 242 sounds a bit less impressive in imperial ponies – more like a pathetic special offer at a supermarket.

Both hatchback and estate bodystyles will be offered on the newly facelifted Octavia range, the extra power cutting the benchmark 0-62mph times to 6.6 seconds on the five-door (6.7sec on the wagon).
