► Open-top Pagani Huayra Roadster revealed
► Even lighter and more powerful than the coupe
► Public debut at 2017 Geneva motor show
Feast your eyes on one of the most ornate cars you’ll see in 2017: the new Pagani Huayra Roadster.
An open-air evolution of the spellbinding Huayra coupe, production will be limited to 100 cars worldwide – all of which have already been sold.
A removable hard roof made from carbon and glass takes the place of the previous Huayra’s fixed head.
‘This is the most complicated project we have ever undertaken,’ says company owner and founder Horacio Pagani. Coming from a man with an eye for the ambitious, that’s quite a statement.
Engine? Gearbox?
Same as the ‘regular’ Huayra – a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 from AMG, and a seven-speed, single-clutch paddleshift gearbox.
Ordinarily removing the roof from a car means adding weight in structure-strengthening measures, but the Pagani Huayra Roadster actually weighs less than its roofed counterpart, at 1280kg compared with a dry weight of 1350kg for the Huayra coupe. That’s thanks in main to the Huayra’s immensely stiff monocoque chassis, made from a mixture of exotic composites including the evocatively named carbo-titanium.
And with the reduced weight comes an increase in power, climbing to 754bhp vs 722bhp in the coupe. Conversely, torque output falls slightly from 811lb ft to 738lb ft. Not that prospective owners are likely to miss it, we’d wager…
How much has the Pagani Huayra Roadster cost those 100 lucky owners?
‘Base price’ – there’s an amusing turn of phrase – is quoted at € 2,280,000+VAT
. That’s before indulging in the no-doubt endless personalization options; no two Huayra Roadsters are likely to be quite the same.
