► Electric beach buggy gets styling upgrade
► Includes new hardtop, white interior
► Still no sign of UK on-sale date. Boo
Remember the wacky Citroen E-Mehari electric beach buggy? Well, Citroen actually put it into production – and it seems it’s been enough of a success that at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show there’s a new limited edition version.
Called the E-Mehari ‘Styled by Courreges’, it is – as you can probably imagine – the product of collaboration between Citroen and French fashion boutique Courreges.
What’s special about this special edition?
More than just a token slap-on-some-stickers job, this new E-Mehari gets a new hardtop roof and all-white interior – the latter apparently being ‘characteristic’ of the Courreges brand.
You also get central locking and four airbags. Fancy. Hopefully the extra weight of this kit doesn’t halve the E-Mehari’s all-electric range…
How far and how fast does the E-Mehari go?
In standard guise it’ll clock 70mph if you really push it, though the subsequent impact of that effort on the claimed 125-mile driving range is perhaps worth considering – especially since the quoted charging time is 13 hours on a domestic plug.
We sort of want it. But equally, we sort of want to live in a villa in the south of France, and neither desire is likely to happen.
If you do fancy an E-Mehari here in the UK you can ‘register your interest’ on the Citroen customer site. But don’t get those hopes up too high – no UK on sale date has ever been confirmed, and we don’t expect that to change any time soon.
