BMW M6 GT3 racer: yours for £280,000

Updated: 16 September 2015

► BMW M6 GT3 unveiled at Frankfurt
► Pared-back race car for £280,000
► Ready for the 2016 race season

Ever thought the BMW 6-series was a bit too flabby, a bit old-man? Well your prayers might just be answered by this – the new BMW M6 GT3 race car, unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show

It’s a fully fledged GT3-spec racer ready for the 2016 season. It’s BMW Motorsport’s successor to the Z4 GT3, introduced all the way back in 2010, and is likely to prove popular with private race teams in GT and endurance racing around the globe.

What’ll she do mister?

The M6 GT3 is stripped-out and BMW quotes a kerbweight ‘less than 1300kg’. There’s a race-specced 4.4-litre M TwinPower turbo version of the V8 driving through a rear transaxle sequential six-speed ‘box and Munich promises significant improvements to drivability and economy.

No hard performance figures or outputs have been issued today. Cost? A cool €379,000, or around £280,000. One for deep-pocketed gentleman racers, then, plus pro outfits. BMW showed it privately to teams at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hours and the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) in Watkins Glen, United States.

The BMW M6 Coupe Competition Edition

Also at Frankfurt, BMW announced the M6 Coupe Competition Edition, with extra carbonfibre, new paint schemes and the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 tuned up to 592bhp. No wonder top speed climbs to a derestricted 190mph (where the optional M Driver’s Package is ordered). Choose from Alpine white and Austin Yellow metallic.
