How many?! VW’s 150 millionth car rolls off production line

► What will be 200 millionth?

A Volkswagen Golf GTE has become the 150 millionth car ever built by the brand.

VW’s latest brain-boggling figure comes from its Wolfsburg plant, where an Atlantic Blue Golf GTE joins the ranks of the 34 million other Golf models built there.

Highly convenient that this anniversary car happens to be a hybrid; VW is keen to point out that this is what will shape the future of the brand instead of looking at its past.

VW’s I.D. electric brand kicks off with the I.D. hatch from 2020, with the Buzz microbus version coming two years later. The plan is for one million electric VWs to be on the roads by 2025.

VW says that it will have launched 10 new models globally in 2017 alone, and 19 new SUVs are set to arrive by 2020. Will the SUV bubble ever burst?

VW boss, Herbert Diess, said: ‘I see the 150 millionth Volkswagen as an incentive to do everything to ensure a good future for Volkswagen. This brand means a lot to me.’
