Wiesmann is back with a brand-new rap: Project Gecko

► New sports car due in 2020

Remember Wiesmann? The German version of some folks in a shed building sports cars has returned, with its next new car coming in 2020.

The brand’s HQ is naturally a little more sophisticated than that, with the Wiesmann team developing and building its new ‘Project Gecko’ car at its kooky home in Dülmen complete with a massive gecko structure on top. The new car is under a cover for now, but the brand says its retro looks will be like that of the MF5 sports convertible of 2009.

A few teaser images point to a small ducktail spoiler, cut vents in the sides and pronounced wheelarches.

Wiesmann will also continue its partnership with BMW, pointing to the use of Munich’s ‘TwinPower Turbo V8’. That means the new sportster could use the same 592bhp  S63 engine as the BMW M5 and M8.

A rear-wheel drive layout and promises of 50:50 weight distribution, too. More details will be revealed later in 2019.
