Volkswagen has announced a new Golf Match special edition, refreshing the popular hatchback by offering a better specification for no extra cost.
Historically, the Golf Match has proved one of the best-selling Golf trims in the UK.
What makes a Golf Match different from other Golfs?
Even though the Germans aren’t renowned for the generosity of their specifications, VW has thrown extra kit at the new 2014 Golf Match. It comes with front and rear parking sensors, new 16-inch alloys, front foglights and door mirrors which fold, illuminate the ground with puddle lights when parking and dip when reverse gear is selected.
Volkswagen is pepping up the Golf, which is in its third year of production, and claims the Match trim offers excellent value – the extra equipment offered amounts to a £780 saving over a similarly equipped SE.
The Golf Match specification offers a significant amount of extra tech over the entry-level Golf S: ACC Adaptive Cruise Control, a driver alert system, automatic wipers and an automatically dimming rear-view mirror are among some of the useful extra features.
VW Golf Match: engines, specs
The 2014 Golf Match is available with the usual range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, with a choice of manual or VW’s much-lauded DSG twin-clutch gearbox.
The new Golf Match models are on sale now, prices stretching from the entry-level 1.4 TSI at £19,680 to the range-topping DSG equipped 2.0 TDI at £24,120.
With extra equipment, subtly enhanced styling and the usual Golf qualities of a sharp drive, rock-solid quality and clever tech, it’s not hard to see why the new Match edition is likely to become one of the best-selling Golfs in the UK.
