Toyota will show an updated FT-86 concept car at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show starting next week. It’s issued this teaser video showing a few snatchshots of the new rear-wheel drive sports car.
Don’t hold your horses, though. We hear it’s just a new paint job – we’ll have to wait until the Tokyo motor show at the end of November 2011 for the finished production car.
Toyota has form for long, drawn-out concept car gestations. Remember the Lexus LF-A?
It should be worth the wait this time. The FT-86 is the codename for Toyota’s new Celica heir – a 2.0-litre flat four, rear-wheel drive sports car designed to reignite the passion in the Japanese brand. It’ll cost around £25,000 and go on sale in summer 2012, around the same time as the Subaru BRZ being developed alongside it.
