► It’s Suzuki’s first foray into EVs
► Concept has a maximum range of 341 miles
► Will arrive in the UK in 2025
This is the new Suzuki eVX concept. It’s a preview of the Japanese brand’s first pure-electric production car, which is scheduled to hit UK roads in 2025. When it goes on sale, it’ll become a fresh rival for the likes of the MG ZS EV, Kia Niro EV and Mazda MX-30.
The Suzuki eVX concept was unveiled at Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi, India. However, Suzuki assures us that the production model will look past India’s borders, morphing into a global EV with the same sales strategy as the S-Cross.
Suzuki hasn’t yet released a full technical breakdown of the concept, but the brand has said that it’ll be powered by a 60kWh battery pack and have a maximum range of 550km (around 341 miles) according to the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC).
Suzuki also says its new EV will “carry forward the forward the brand’s 4×4 legacy into the new electric era.” That means there’ll probably be a flagship version of the car with twin electric motors. Cheaper versions of the EV will likely only feature one electric motor to keep costs down.
If the production car retains the same dimensions as the concept, it’ll be quite compact. Suzuki says the eVX concept measures 4300mm long, 1800mm wide and 1600mm tall, making it around the same size as the MG ZS EV and Mazda MX-30. It appears to be better packaged than its rivals, though – its bonnet is shorter, which leaves more of the car’s length available for the cabin.
Its styling is a modernised version of Suzuki’s current design language. You can see elements of the S-Cross in the rear quarter panel, rear lights and front bumper. However, the surfacing is a little more aggressive than Suzuki’s current vehicles, in a likely bid to give the eVX some kerb appeal alongside the striking-looking Kia Niro EV and Vauxhall Mokka Electric.
Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, said: “I am delighted to unveil the eVX, our first global strategic EV. At the Suzuki Group, addressing global warming is a priority. We are promoting a range of global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Suzuki will continue providing valuable products to our customers around the world by optimizing them for the way different people live and drive.”
