Skoda Octavia vRS 230: more power for 2015’s best Q-car

Updated: 23 February 2015

► More power for hot Octavia vRS
► Now boasts 227bhp, or 230ps
► Skoda quotes 0-62mph in 6.7sec

Skoda has another surprise up its sleeve for the 2015 Geneva motor show: this new Skoda Octavia vRS 230, its fastest production car ever.

It will be shown alongside the new 2015 Superb.

The 230 refers to the output in horsepower, or ps – making it equivalent to 227bhp in imperial ponies.

That’s up 10 horses (in both measures) on the regular Octavia vRS. That’s right; this is a special edition version and Skoda plans to sell both in parallel.

What else is new on the 2015 Skoda Octavia vRS 230?

Not much. It’s mostly an engine chip job, with more turbo boost providing the extra oomph.

Skoda claims a 155mph top speed and 0-62mph in 6.7sec. That’s down a slender tenth on the lower-powered petrol vRS.

One worthy addition is the use of an electronically controlled front axle differential lock, like on the VW Golf GTI Mk7. It’s the front part of a Haldex four-wheel drive system, using clutches to apportion torque to the wheels with the most traction.

Expect to see the vRS 230 on sale in June 2015. The diesel Octavia vRS continues unchanged. Click here to see CAR’s long-term test review of the derv go-faster estate.
