Photo of the week: Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

Updated: 26 January 2015

Didn’t make it to the 2009 LA Auto Show? Then you missed the ugliest Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe ever made (see our pictures, right).

Faced with the prospect of arch-rival Bentley showing off its new Azure T – a 500bhp version of the ultra-expensive convertible – in the same hall, Rolls was clearly wondering how to compete. How to out-do Bentley? The answer came in the form of this custard yellow Drophead, complete with brushed aluminium bonnet.

But don’t berate Rolls too much. Perhaps it was just copying Bentley. Check out the picture of the yellow Continental GTC CAR snapped at 2007’s Bologna Motor Show. Truly awful, too.

Perhaps someone’s hacked into their design boffins’ computers and installed a custard-yellow paint virus…

Which do you think is worse? Click ‘Add your comment’ below and tell us whether you’re more turned off by the Rolls or Bentley
