Pagani is working flat out to ready its new C9 supercar for production, but that doesn’t mean the current Zonda is being put out to pasture just yet. A year ago Pagani revealed the Zonda R, a track-only version of its seminal supercar. And now it’s built a few of them the Italian company has got them together on track for a little fun.
Ah yes, I’ve always felt my Zonda a little slow and wanted a million-pound track toy. What do I get?
Top of the list is a 6.0-litre V12 built by Mercedes’ AMG division, and the dry-sumped unit produces 739bhp at 7500rpm and 524lb ft at 5700rpm. A six-speed sequential ‘box sends that power to the rear wheels, the suspension is new and the aerodynamics have been massivly revised to provide real downforce. You also get plastic windows and gold wheels.
What can I see in the Zonda R ad?
The video starts off with music that’s Lord of the Rings-meets-ITV news and some nice Italian chaps assembling a Zonda R – you’d think they could have organised themselves to get it done before filming started. Still, it’s a good chance to see the beauty beneath the carbon skin. Then it’s out onto a wet track with a few very brave test drivers (each car costs £1.3m) to put the Zonda Rs through their paces.
Watch, enjoy, then play the lottery tonight.
