► Nissan reveals image of new Micra
► Electric supermini uses R5 platform and tech
► Launches towards the end of the year
Nissan has officially shown us the first image of its new electric supermini – meet the new Micra.
Look familiar? It may well do, if you’ve been keeping a close eye on the Renault 5. Given the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the new Micra leans heavily on that new, retro and rather good electric city car.
The most obvious detail is the shape, as the Micra shares a very similar roofline to the R5. Details that have been teased for some time are apparent, including a headlight design inspired by the 20-23 concept. In fact, the new Micra has been designed at the brand’s design centre in London – just like the radical hot hatch concept.
Official details are few and far between for now but, given the Micra uses the Renault 5’s AmpR Small platform, we can assume a lot. Nissan does confirm that the Micra will offer the same 40 and 52kWh battery packs, claiming a maximum range of 248 miles.
The Micra will also likely benefit from the same 94, 118 and 148bhp electric motor outputs across the European markets. Nissan is also promoting its own bi-directional charging scheme, of which the Micra’s platform is already capable of linking with.
To save cost, and given the Micra runs on the same factory line as the R5 in Douai, France, we predict that Nissan will use its own version of the Google-based Open-R infotainment system that Renault uses, with its own ChatGPT-enabled personal assistant.
We’ll have to wait for more official details, though, as Nissan confirms the new Micra will go on sale before the end of 2025.
