McLaren has released a glossy launch video to accompany the release of the new 12C Spider supercar. It looks as if the boys and girls from Woking are determined to destroy the reputation for anodyne, ‘boring’ supercars at McLaren, given that the 12C Spider spends most of its time going very sideways in this clip.
Then again, given the 12C Spider’s hardware, it’s not hard to see why it’s such a lairy beast when off the leash. Its twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 develops 616bhp, firing the car to 62mph in 3.1 seconds, and on to a possible 204mph maximum.
Cheekily, McLaren has provided an unmissable shot ofthe 12C’s folding hard-top roof being retracted while on the move – its sworn Ferrari rival, the 458 Spider, can’t pop its top until it’s stopped.
If this video has your chequebook hand itching, then you’ll need to find £195,000 to put a brand new 12C Spider in your garage. It’s on sale in November, so you might have to wait a while longer to get some roof down, tyre-smoking action like this though…
