► New 2018 model year engines
► Discovery Sport and Evoque benefit
► Ingenium engines from 237-286bhp
Land Rover is gradually rolling out its new range of inhouse petrol and diesel engines – and the 2018 model year Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque ranges are the next to benefit.
The big-selling off-roader pair – Land Rover’s most popular car ranges globally – are getting the latest high-power four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, badged Si4 and offering 237bhp or 286bhp.
The latter is the most powerful engine offered in either Land Rover, promising 0-60mph in a hot-hatch-beating 6.0sec and a top speed of 144mph.
Although diesel sales still dominate the SUV sector, there are signs that petrol power is making a comeback in the wake of the VW diesel emissions scandal.
But I like diesel! Are there new derv Ingenium engines for the Disco Sport and Evoque too?
Yep. The new 237bhp Ingenium SD4 diesel is also offered on both models, adding further punch for derv buyers wanting more performance.
The new engines will be available in three-door Coupe, five-door SUV and soft-top convertible Evoque bodystyles.

It too gets new paint colours, as well as more comfortable seats with a new foam construction, designed to answer criticism from owners.
All of the new engines are developed and built in the UK, at Jaguar Land Rover’s new engine factory in Wolverhampton.
As with many car makers, Land Rover is defaulting to a narrower, predominantly four-cylinder engine range, with power outputs boosted by turbocharging – all in the name of greater efficiency.
