Lamborghini will build 100 examples of this special edition Aventador to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary this year. Called the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50° Anniversario, the car features an uprated engine, aggressive aerodynamic addenda and bespoke interior treatment.
What’s changed for the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50° Anniversario?
Let’s start with that name: ‘720’ denotes the 720PS output of the engine – that’s 710bhp in old money, a 19bhp rise from the ‘standard’ Aventador LP700. The car remains all-wheel drive, and still uses a normal single-clutch automated transmission, unchanged from the regular Aventador. The small rise in poke isn’t enough to improve the Aventador’s already startling performance: as before, 50° Anniversario model hits 62mph in 2.9sec, and tops out at 217mph. That’s plenty, surely? (until we get a hardcore SV model…)
There are a few bodywork tweaks too. The black front splitter (with a frontal aspect that looks rather like a curled moustache) adds downforce, and a visual link to the limited-edition Lamborghini Veneno’s front end. The rear diffuser has had a huge growth spurt, now looking pleasingly like the rump of the 2009 Murcielago SV. Lamborghini claims the bodywork changes have made this Aventador 50% more aerodynamic than the regular car. The 50° Anniversario rides on the same forged alloys as the Aventador Roadster, measuring 20in up front and 21in on the rear.
It’s very yellow, this 50th birthday Aventador…
The colour is inspired by the Muira’s yellow paintwork – Lamborgini says yellow has been the most popular hue in the company’s 50-year history. The Aventador 50° Anniversario wears a new shade called Giallo Magia, exclusive to this car, though customers can have their example painted any colour they wish, thanks to an extensive personalisation programme. The same goes for the semi-aniline leather-upholstered cabin: it’s quilted yellow as standard, but Lambo will cater to whatever your imagination can conjure…
Lamborghini hasn’t announced a price for the Aventador LP720-4 50° Anniversario, but you can bet it’s a shade higher than the £253,200 tag the Aventador usually starts at. The car will be seen in the carbonfibre flesh for the first time at the Shanghai motor show later in April 2013.
