You’re looking at the new Honda Jazz Hybrid, a new version of Honda’s supermini, which takes the firm’s tally of petrol-electric cars to four. Take that, Toyota.
Honda will introduce the hybrid Jazz as part of a 2011 facelift. It’s the first time hybrid power has been available in the supermini segment.
What’s under the skin of the 2011 Honda Jazz Hybrid?
The Jazz Hybrid features the same 1.3-litre petrol engine which does service in the Insight and Civic hybrid, assisted by an electric motor and putting its power down via a CVT automatic shifter. Honda hasn’t homologated the Jazz Hybrid yet, but claims its internal tests saw the car return 64.2mpg and 104 g/km CO2 – the Insight, depending on spec, returns 61.4-64.2mpg, and 101-105g/km.
What else is different on the Honda Jazz Hybrid?
Well, the styling’s received a few subtle changes. At the front, the headlamps get a slightly new shape (honest), the grille’s new and the bumpers are updated. There are changes at the back, too, with clear lenses for the light clusters and what Honda describes as a ‘chrome tailgate garnish’. The clever folding Magic Seats also remain, but boot space is reduced from 379 litres to 300, and 831 with the seats folded (it was 883).
The Honda Jazz Hybrid is due to make its debut at the 2010 Paris motor show in September, and will land in UK dealerships in early 2011.
