Honda Accord Coupe: the lowdown
Officially, this facelifted, two-door Accord is a concept. Unofficially, the next-generation coupe will go on sale in autumn 2007, as a 2008 model. It’s a lot funkier than the bland Accord sedan, which will get this facelift at the same time, so it’s not shown up by its cooler sibling. Out go today’s arrow head lamps, for rectangular projector units more in keeping with the European Accord. And as is the norm to boost road presence, the Coupe showcases a much bigger, six-sided grille, packed with honeycomb on the ‘concept’. ‘The Accord Coupe Concept demonstrates the styling direction for the upcoming, eighth generation Accord,’ said John Mendel, big cheese at American Honda.
What else is new?
The two-door gets more dynamic lines, including a big swage cut into the side. At the rear, quad tailpipes protrude through the valance. The other big change is a higher performance but cleaner V6, which will improve on the 244hp generated by today’s 3.0-litre unit.
