Earlier this year we wrote about a new, limited-edition Mustang Bullitt, and at the time, we were shocked to discover it was coming to the UK. And now we know how much it’ll cost, too.
Today Ford announced UK prices for its 5.0-litre V8-powered special, and it’ll start from £47,145 – with deliveries beginning from September this year.
Alongside the pricing information, Ford revealed every limited-edition Mustang will come with a rev-matching six-speed transmission – with a cue ball top. Inside, the new car will come with a 1000 watt, 12-speaker B&O Play system as standard – though we’d prefer the car’s classic V8 burble.
What’s more, the Bullitt Mustang will come with exclusive, black fix-spoke alloys which should contrast nicely with red six pot Brembo brakes.
The familiar 5.0-litre V8 packs 475bhp and 420lb ft of torque – enough, says Ford, for a 163mph top speed, up 8mph over a regular Mustang GT. Thanks to the sports exhaust, Shelby intake manifold and ECU tweakery for the extra performance.
And the livery of this special nods to the 1960s coupe’s paint job in that famous San Francisco car chase scene: it comes with Dark Highland Green paint, or Shadow Black if you fancy, matching the Recaro bucket seats inside.
Ford Mustang Bullitt edition: everything else
It’s hard to believe it’s half a century ago, but 50 years have indeed passed since cult car movie Bullitt was released, distinguished by one very cool Ford Mustang. And apart from making us feel old, what better way to mark the anniversary than by showing a new special edition?
The very first 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt has sold at auction for $300,000 (£215,000). Donated by Ford and the Steve McQueen estate, all the proceeds from the annual Barrett-Jackson sale in Scottsdale will go to the Boys Republic charity in the US which helps rehabilitate troubled youngsters.
The Bullitt chassis VIN #001 was driven on stage at the auction by Chad McQueen, son of Steve McQueen who starred in the seminal car chase flick half a century ago. The sale followed one week on from the 2018 Detroit motor show.
Also sold at the Barrett-Jackson sale was the first Ford GT supercar off the line; it raised a serious $2.5m (£1.8m) for the Autism Society of North Carolina.
To unveil the car to the world’s media in Detroit, Ford helpfully hired Steve McQueen’s granddaughter Molly, who starred in a homage to the 1968 original, though this time she’s racing a Dodge Charger for the final parking space. Watch the video in our player below:
Ford brought along the original Bullitt car to Detroit to show its new special edition alongside. The classic had been out of sight for years, after being bought as a daily driver in 1974. The owner of that car passed on in 2014, and his son Sean got it running in time for the 50th anniversary of the film.
