Ford Mustang 50th Year Limited Edition (2014) Mustang history gallery

Updated: 26 January 2015

Ford is celebrating 50 years of the Mustang with this imaginatively titled 50th Year Limited Edition Mustang. Strangely for a car that invented what we know today as the options and accessories list, you can only choose the colour (white or blue) and whether to have a manual or automatic transmission.

Every other options box is ticked, while extra chrome highlights, louvered rear windows and a faux rear filler cap are exclusive to this birthday edition. Only 1964 examples will be produced, nodding to the Mustang’s debut at the 1964 World Fair.

Under the bonnet, the 50th Year Mustang uses V8 power, naturally: the 5.0-litre engine develops 420bhp and 390lb ft, putting performance on a par with the new BMW M4. Exclusive 19in forged alloy wheels are added to this special edition, along with the regular Mustang GT performance pack, which adds six-piston Brembo brakes and Pirelli tyres.

So, that’s how Ford itself commemorates 50 years of Mustang heritage. To see for yourself how the Mustang has evolved (for better and for worse) since 1964, click through our 50 Years of Mustang gallery.
