Donkervoort F22: the fighter jet for the road

► F22 is wild Dutch brand’s latest model
► Weighs just 750kg, uses a 5cyl turbo
► 493bhp available, only 75 being made

Donkervoort, the Dutch car brand that’s obsessed with high power and low weight, has done it again. This is the F22 – a mad, new-generation model that’s hugely powerful and rather light.

The new F22 uses a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine that develops 493bhp – a huge amount for a car that weighs just 750kg. There’s a manual gearbox with a short throw stick and rev-matching, as well as a Torsen limited-slip differential to handle that huge shove of power.

Donkervoort has also applied a multi-step traction control system to allow for different levels of slip depending on what you fancy. The brand hasn’t released performance figures, beyond the fact that the F22 is capable of a power-to-weight figure of 666 metric horsepower and the top speed is north of 180mph.

The tubular steel and carbonfibre chassis is clad in some properly striking bodywork, using custom Recaro seats and a six-point harness that Donkervoort says is approved for track and road use. On top of that, though, is the fact that the F22 has a targa top roof and butterfly doors for some added visual drama.

The original production run was just 50, but the brand upped that to 75 after the initial teaser was released. The first ones will arrive in January 2023.
