Alpine may have just shown off its analogue, ICE-powered A110 R sportscar, but we’re about to get a better glimpse of its future. Called the Alpine Alpenglow, this concept may sound like a breakfast cereal, but it’s a placeholder for the brand’s upcoming design language.

Featuring a red-tinged lightbar, the concept is a huge departure from the A110 model – the only car Alpine currently has on sale right now. ‘Alpenglow’s mighty and lavish design hints at what Alpine cars will be like tomorrow and at our vision for motor sports moving forward,’ said CEO Laurent Rossi. ‘With hydrogen technology on board, we are strengthening our commitment to a responsible future and to keeping driving pleasure as real as ever.’

Judging by these initial pictures, the future Alpine vehicles will look a lot like an even more angular Honda NSX to our eyes. However, unlike the Honda, it’ll be hydrogen-powered. That’s right, though Alpine is already preparing an all-electric range of cars – including an SUV – it’s not given up on hydrogen power just yet.

And what does Alpenglow mean exactly? According to Alpine, it’s the ‘luminous phenomenon in which a horizontal streak of red-tinged light appears on the mountains before sunrise and after sunset.’ You learn something new every day.

We’ll update this story when we know more.
