Alpine and race partner Signatech have announced their first entry in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on 25 June 2023, where it will compete in the Time Attack 1 class.

Alpine has revealed the first pictures of the A110 Pikes Peak, a sports car destined to compete in the high-altitude race in to the clouds. The heavily bespoilered race car made its debut run at Lurcy-Lévis on 25 and 26 April, with two further testing sessions to be held at Drôme and Val Thorens this summer.

Alpine collaboration with Signatech: the most extreme ever

The A110 Pikes Peak is a designated partnership led by Raphaël Linari, Alpine’s design manager, and Signatech’s technical director Lionel Chevalier. ‘The A110 Pikes Peak brings out the wildest side of this iconic car,’ said Linari. ‘It is agile and light by design, with its specific aerodynamics and extreme proportions.’

This is a one-off model which boasts more power (nearly 500bhp) and less weight. Tipping the scales at a flyweight 950 kilogrammes, the A110 Pikes Peak is 132kg lighter than the A110 R.

It’s a lesson in aero addenda: the striking splitters and spoiler deflectors are some of the most impressive features of the Alpine A110 Pikes Peak and there’s a Le Mans-style shark fin on the rear window to aid directional stability at speed.

Note the new light signatures, too; the A110 Pikes Peak front lights appear as two thin laser-cut bars, replacing the traditional circular lamps we’ve hitherto seen on the sleek French sports car. Other distinguishing features include bespoke wheels and an imposing rear wing providing that all-important downforce at 14,115ft.

A110 Pikes Peak aims to break records

Embarking on its biggest challenge yet, the A110 Pikes Peak is aiming to break records across the 12-mile American Race to the Clouds – including competing against modified and specialised production-based two and four-wheel drive vehicles in the Time Attack 1 class.

The driver tasked with taking the brutal Alpine up Pikes Peak is Raphaël Astier, who claimed the 2022 FIA R-GT Cup win with the A110 Rally. Astier has participated in the event four times already and will be behind the wheel for the car’s final configuration testing in France.
