► Alpina’s 2019 B7 limousine
► That grille and a powerful V8
► Better than an M760Li?
It’s Alpina’s time to shine with the updated BMW 7-series and here is their offering: the updated B7, complete with equally gigantic grille.
The B7 is 0.2sec faster to 62mph than the updated (and V12-equipped) M760Li version of the facelifted 7-er, capable of doing the launch in just 3.6 seconds. It’s also capable of a 205mph max speed. It’s seriously quick.
Unlike the flagship 7-series, the Alpina B7 uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 much like the engine from cars like the BMW M5 and M850i. It’s coupled to an eight-speed ZF automatic and all-wheel drive. Since it’s designed to be a proper autobahn cruising missile, there’s air suspension front and rear with active anti-roll systems, rear-wheel steering and adaptive dampers to keep the car flat and/or comfy.
Inside and out and as always, Alpina adds subtle bits of individuality to the B7. A discreet bodykit complete with Alpina lettering features, with active air intakes at the front and a pair of chrome twin exhausts are included.
As for the cockpit, the seats can be hand-upholstered with bespoke Alpina designs and a bespoke digital instrument cluster are your main clues. Soft-close doors, a load of safety kit and adaptive cruise are on the equipment list, too.
This will inevitably be Alpina’s star car at the 2019 Geneva motor show, where we’ll find out more.
