► The best Scalextric sets for Christmas
► Featuring F1 cars, classic cars, and even supercars
► Show off your racing skills this Christmas
For many people Scalextric sets are a mainstay during Christmas, like brussels sprouts or that Lynx gift set that makes a comeback every year. Once all the food has been eaten and the presents have been opened it might be time to play family games. Scalextric can provide hours of fun for the whole family, and like the best Lego sets, it isn’t just for the kids.
Technology has moved on since the early days of Scalextric; now you can switch lanes and even record lap times, so if you’re a super-competitive racer then there hasn’t been a better time to show off your skills.
Of course, you won’t be racing all the time, so whilst you’re at a pit stop you can check out some of our other Christmas gift recommendations. Whatever your interest, if you share a love for cars then we’ve got the perfect gift for you.
If you’d prefer to receive a Scalextric set rather gift one, then be sure to share this with family and friends (hint hint.)

To add a 3D element to your Scalextric experience, this track adds a stunt-ramp for some banked overtaking – as well as a loop. You get a 1:64 scale Batmobile and a 1:64 scale Joker race car. Suitable for ages 4+, so we have a pretty good idea which car most children will choose. Why so serious?
Micro Scalextric James Bond No Time To Die Race Set
Fans of the popular secret agent can enjoy this battery-powered 007 micro Scalextric set that features 1:64 scale vehicles. Since the James Bond movies feature many modern vehicles there is the option to race a Jaguar XF, but if you want something a little more iconic then take control of the Aston Martin DB5 on the 4.08-metre track that features a loop for thrills that leave you shaken not stirred.
Micro Scalextric Law Enforcer Track Set
This one is less racing and more evading, as it features a Concept Maelstrom that is chased by a Police SUV around a 4.08-metre track. Suitable for ages 4+, this track features a stunt ramp and a loop, so you can pull out all the tricks to try to get away.
Are Scalextric worth the money?
In short, yes. Scalextric sets can provide hours of entertainment for the whole family, and with digital versions you can even connect some Scalextric sets to your smartphone to change the racing modes. For younger racers there are even 1-piece body shell cars which are pretty crash resistant. Scalextric sets can make a wonderful gift during the festive season.
How Scalextric works?
Scalextric models are basically slot cars, which feature a track that contains a groove in the middle that is lined with metal rails. Slot cars are placed on top of the track, and they use the groove – or slot – in the track to guide the car around the circuit.
You can change the configuration of the track on which you are racing by simply clicking the pieces together, and cars are controlled using a trigger handset.
Where to buy Scalextric?
Scalextric sets are sold at all major toy retailers, but if you want to get your set in time for Christmas then we’d recommend you order yours sooner rather than later, as delivery times will be affected over the festive period.
Which Scalextric track is best?
That depends on what you’re looking for. Of course, there are digital sets that can be connected to your smartphone, but we would prefer a set with a stunt ramp or loop to add a little excitement. Track lengths can start from two metres, and we’ve seen some that are nine metres long. Some tracks can be configured in different ways, with up to twelve layouts available for some.
