Russell Bulgin was the UK’s outstanding motoring journalist of his generation: a brilliant writer and observer of the car industry, his career was defined by superlative writing, passion, expertise and a relentless pursuit of automotive excellence. He wrote for  CAR magazine UK for 11 years and also contributed to Autocar, GQ magazine and The Daily Telegraph, among other outlets.

Hailing from a background deeply rooted in automotive fascination, Bulgin’s journey began with an insatiable curiosity for all things automotive. His innate ability to dissect the nuances of automotive design, performance and car culture quickly propelled him into the spotlight of automotive journalism. He was also a fan of cycling, music and fashion.

Throughout his career, Bulgin exhibited a keen eye for detail, coupled with a unique storytelling prowess that captivated readers and enthusiasts alike. His contributions to CAR magazine UK not only solidified his status as a respected authority in the field but have also served as a guiding light for a whole generation of aspiring automotive journalists, among them many of today’s staff.

As a true aficionado of automotive craftsmanship, Bulgin continued to inspire and inform audiences worldwide until his death from lymphatic cancer in May 2002, aged just 43. He left an indelible legacy in the ever-evolving landscape of automotive journalism.
