► Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus
► Fastest drop-top Audi ever
► Exclusive green colour pack
Audi has turned the wick up on its R8 Spyder just in time for summer – this is the new Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus.
It’s available in an exclusive – and lurid – ‘micrommata green’ for those who want to make sure they definitely stand out and apparently ‘completes the R8 model line’, according to Audi Sport boss Stephan Winkelmann.
Other than the fact you can get it in green and with a foldable roof, the V10 Plus is pretty much exactly the same as the hardtop version. That means a 602bhp 5.2-litre V10, quattro four-wheel drive and an engine note that’s so shrill banshees will be covering their ears within a five mile radius.
A 0-62mph sprint time of 3.3 seconds is 0.3 seconds faster than the standard Spyder and its 204mph top speed is 6mph faster, too.
Audi has used a fabric folding roof, opposed to a hard one like the new McLaren 570S Spider, and says that it only adds 44kg of weight. For context, the carbonfibre roof mechanism used on the 570S Spider is only 2kg heavier…
Other Plus details include carbon ceramic brakes, a low spoiler and black forged alloy wheels.
Inside, it’s just like the coupe. The cabin is geared towards the driver, there’s a distinct lack of clutter on the dashboard and there’s loads of tech, including the Virtual Cockpit screen, an optional 4G hotspot and Bang and Olufsen stereo.
The R8 Spyder V10 Plus is available to order now, priced at 207,500 euros on the continent. Specific UK prices aren’t known yet, but the V10 Plus coupe is around £15k more than the standard car; that means a UK Spyder V10 Plus should be priced at around £147k.
