Ever tried making really fiddly models, and ended up with great globs of glue all over it and bits falling off all over the place?

Well, it’s not just ham-fisted amateurs that have this problem. Even the professionals do, which is why until now nobody has dared make a production scale model of the Ariel Atom.

Simon Saunders, boss of Ariel, said: ‘We have been approached by a few model makers over the years but when they understand the complexity of modelling the Atom they have all given up at an early stage.’

But Soul Models in Spain have manfully stepped up and produced 1500 1:18 official scale replicas of the lattice-bodied sportscar – replete with gold chassis and wheels, carbon bodywork, side pods and the unique colour scheme of the V8. It’s so detailed that it even features the builder’s plaque on the seat.

‘We’ve been keen to see a scale version of an Atom so it’s great that Soul Models have taken on the task and produced such a great, detailed model,’ added Saunders.

Such complexity doesn’t come cheap though: the mini Atom is priced at £149.94.
